GTA 3 and GTA Vice City: Two Classic Franchise Titles to be Released on PS3

If you have been playing Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto for quite awhile now then you know that Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto – Vice City were originally released on the PlayStation 2. You might even have copies of these two games from the popular franchise. Now, both GTA 3 and Vice City are being released on the current Sony console, PlayStation 3.

The two aforementioned GTA games, according to new ESRBs, will soon be featured on the PlayStation Store as PS2 classics. Just to be clear, these are classic copies and not HD re-releases, which are currently pretty common with older games. HD re-releases are copies that have been given smoother frames so that the graphics end up looking a lot more polished.

Both PS3 versions of GTA 3 and Vice City will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment America. No, Rockstar will not be publishing. It seems that Rockstar Games and its partner studios have taken up the habit of re-releasing older games for these past two years. They have even taken to shipping ports of 3D Grand Theft Auto games for Mac OS X, iOS and Android platforms.

Even with Grand Theft Auto 5 under development, Rockstar Games and its partners are keeping busy with re-releasing older titles. This may turn out to be a great idea. Re-releasing titles to more current platforms is in a way preserving those games. After all, what if some gamers want to keep copies of the game but not of the console? It is also good to know that some PS2 titles are being published for the PS3. Not everyone has had the chance to enjoy the previous Grand Theft Auto titles. New fans may want to have a go at older titles before they can push forward with the upcoming GTA 5.
