Video: Skyrim’s PS3 lag exposed - Are you suffering?

Skyrim players continued to be frustrated by significant game lag on the PS3 version of Bethesda’s RPG this weekend - and now we’ve captured the problem on video.

The problem - which doesn’t seem to affect the Xbox 360 version at all - is said to occur once players rack up a large amount of hours in Skyrim, and save files grow in size.

Bethesda confirmed over the weekend that a new Skyrim patch will arrive in a few weeks for all versions of the RPG, and “improved performance for long-term play on PS3″ is on the change list.

Our man Tim Clark said: “I first started encountering serious lag at around the 25-hour mark, and since then it’s been the same: I boot up, play for an hour or so, then the framerate gets choppier until I ultimately need to restart the PS3.

“I’d actually already noticed that the file was creeping up in size every time I saved.”

According to Tim, restarting your machine appears to fix the lag (although seemingly only for an hour or so), while turning off the auto save feature also helps.

“It’s frustrating though,” he added, “I’m bonkers for the game and don’t want the experience soured by it turning into a flickbook. Bethesda surely have to patch it with a fix.”

The problem is said to actually get worse than what you can see in the video above, so PS3 owners might want to think twice before sinking significant time into the game before the patch arrives.
