The Top 10 Best PS3 Games for 2011

PS3 Games

Holiday Gifts PlayStation 3 gamers have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. The console, which debuted at an incredible $499 to $599 (depending on storage capacity) and a weak launch library, has been transformed into a must-have machine thanks to a new attractive $249 price point, an integrated Blu-ray player, and a rich video game library.

Many of the best PS3 games are cross-platform games that are also available on the PC and Xbox 360—Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim—but the PS3 has a handful of exclusives that make the system stand out from its competitors. These range from games that use standard video game controls (Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception) to titles that use Sony’s dusty, under-utilized PlayStation Move motion sticks (Everybody Dance) that were designed to capitalize on Nintendo’s Wii success.

Although the games in this feature are distributed on physical discs, the PS3—like the Xbox 360 and PC—has a deep digital download library. The PlayStation Network (PSN) is where you can purchase new games through your console for typically $15 or less; if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber ($17.99 for three months, $49.99 for a year) you can purchase select games at a discount, download full game trials, and get early access to demos and betas—not to mention additional content that can extend the life of many games. There will undoubtedly be expansions for Skyrim, for example.
