Goldeneye 007: Reloaded Now Available For Xbox 360, PS3

Activision’s modernization of the classic N64 FPS title is now available for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Yes, the umpteenth remake of Goldeneye is finally available, again, this time for people who didn’t buy the Wii version or didn’t download any of those total conversion mods for most PC shooters.

David Oxford, Executive Vice President at Activision Publishing shared a few thoughts in the press release, saying…

“This is the epitome of a classic reborn,” … “We know that fans love the original GoldenEye film, so our team worked closely with the original screenwriter and film talent, along with the devoted developers at Eurocom, to create a modern reimagining tailor-made for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers around the world.”

Seems weird that with the resources they tossed into the game they may as well have made a brand new title. But, I’m guessing Activision wanted to cash in on the Goldeneye brand name and garner a few extra sales that way.

Anyway, Goldeneye 007: Reloaded is basically a remake of the N64 classic practically built in an identical gameplay manner to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. If you don’t like the latter then you’re probably going to not like the former. The game features 60 frames per second gameplay, the option to approach scenarios “stealthily” or in a “run-and-gun” manner, as well as updated visuals and a lot of iron-sight oriented gunplay.

Additionally, the game revives the four-player splitscreen gameplay options (something that’s been missing from a lot of games lately) and also features 16-player online multiplayer skirmishes across a variety of different modes in completely overhauled maps from the N64.

The game was supposedly built on a brand new engine from the ground up but I would be lying if I said it looks original. Seems like they would have done better just making the game based on the CoD engine given the way it plays and looks. But oh well.

You can pick up Goldeneye: 007 Reloaded for the Xbox 360 or PS3 for $59.99 (though it looks more like a $39.99 sort of game), or just wait until next week and buy Modern Warfare 3 for a similar experience except with more gameplay options and modes.
