Battlefield 3 PS3 Install 5X Longer than Xbox 360 Version

While there’s been some controversy surrounding the mandatory 1.5GB high-res texture install for the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3, the PlayStation 3 version actually takes quite a bit longer to get up and running.

Battlefield 3 PS3 Install 5X Longer than Xbox 360 Version

Last week, we learned that the Xbox 360 version of EA’s Battlefield 3 requires a 1.5GB install in order for the game to display high-res textures. But after trying out both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, we discovered that while the 360 version’s texture install and other updates take a good 5 minutes, the PS3 version takes approximately 25+ minutes worth of installation time (plus a “synchronizing trophies” update, which only takes a second or two).

We should also point out, however, that there isn’t a tremendous difference between the visuals on the PS3 version and the Xbox 360 version with the high-res textures installed.
