Week Recap: PS3 PSN; Xbox 360 Forza 4; Zelda Wii; 3DS No. 1

Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked No. 2 in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 30,362 units between Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 39,452 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked four titles in the top 10, including Tecmo Koei Corp.’s Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends at No. 2, From Software Inc.’s Dark Souls at No. 3, and Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection at No. 10.

Sony Corp. this week announced the release of ‘Only on Playstation’ titles, an exclusive library of games for the Playstation Network division of Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 to be sold in Oct.

New downloadable titles include Euphoria (Oct. 4), Rochard (Oct. 4), Sideway: New York (Oct. 11), Sodium Collection (Oct. 13), Okabu (Oct. 18), Rocketbirds (Oct. 18), Infamous: Festival of Blood (Oct. 25), and PixelJunk Sidescroller (Oct. 25).

Playstation Network members who spend $60 in Oct. will receive a $10 in-store credit.

In addition, Playstation Plus subscribers will receive 20 percent off during the launch week of each title.

Pre-order sales for Sony Corp.’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Collector’s Edition for the Playstation 3 locked the top 30 sales this week at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division due to strong demand.

Konami Corp.’s Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Limited Edition for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked in the top 35 sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division this week due to strong demand.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week began offering a new pre-order bonus with the advanced purchase of Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Final Fantasy XIII-2.

This week, customers who pre-order Final Fantasy XIII-2 will receive the Omega Boss Battle, which includes a unique coliseum battle against Omega. Omega joins the players’ party after defeat.

Sears Holding Corp.’s Kmart division this week said Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Dark Souls for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 outsold Bethesda Softworks’ Rage PS3 SKU upon release at the retailer.

The company this week said via the KmartGamer Twitter Account the Dark Souls PS3 SKU outsold the Rage PS3 SKU in the first day of availability at Kmart stores and Kmart.com.

Bethesda Softworks’ Rage for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, and the PC is a rich first-person shooter that incorporates shooting, driving and role-playing elements in a post-apocalyptic wasteland in a Final Review.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Dark Souls for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 is a challenging action RPG that wields a tough yet addictive thirst for victory even upon death in a Final Review.

The PSP sold 25,415 units for the week to rank at No. 3 in Japan.

The PSP go sold 14 units to rank No. 10 for the week.

The PSP ranked four titles in the top 10, including Nihon Falcom Corp.’s Eiyuu Densetsu: Ao no Kiseki at No. 1 and Evangelion Shin Gekijoban: 3nd Impact at No. 4.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware retreated this week in the latest Japan retail figures post release of Gears of War 3 in the region.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 2,411 units between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2 to rank No. 8 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 3,897 units the week amid the release of Gears of War 3 one week ago.

Sales of Gears of War 3 fell to the No. 28 rank. It ranked as the No. 4 top-selling title at launch one week prior.

Microsoft Corp. this week said it will partner with Verizon Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp. to offer live TV programming to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.

Nearly 40 entertainment content providers will offer content to the online service, including Bravo, Comcast, HBO GO, Verizon FiOS, and Syfy in the U.S.

Worldwide partners include the BBC in the U.K., Telefonica in Spain, and Rogers On Demand in Canada.

Pre-order sales EA Inc.’s Mass Effect 3 Collector’s Edition SKU climbed this week at Amazon.com Inc. amid building demand for the sequel.

Microsoft Corp.’s Forza Motorsport 4 Limited Edition SKU for the Xbox 360 ranked in the top three this week at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division this week due to strong pre-order demand.

Amazon.com Inc. this week Subaru Impreza WRX STI to customers who pre-order the title.

Microsoft Corp. this week said it will release the Horde Command Pack DLC to Gears of War 3 for the Xbox 360 Nov. 1.

The Horde Command Pack will include three new maps, three new playable characters, two new weapon skins, additional Achievements, and new fortification upgrades.

It will sell at 800 Microsoft Points.

Pre-order sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary for the Xbox 360 ranked in the top 25 this week at Amazon.com Inc. due to building demand for the remaster.

Microsoft Corp.’s Orcs Must Die for the Xbox Live division of Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 is no frills action title that offers a quick action against waves of angry orcs in a Final Review.

Pre-order sales for Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition SKU ranked in the top three sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division this week amid strong pre-sale demand.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition SKU, to be sold Nov. 8, will include unique disc art, 1-year of Call of Duty: Elite Membership, Special Founder Status on Call of Duty: Elite, Steelbook Case, Exclusive Playstation Network Animated Timeline Theme, Exclusive Special Ops Juggernaut Xbox Live Outfit, and a Limited Edition Collectible Field Journal.

It will sell at $99.99.

EA Inc. this week released a new update to the Multiplayer Beta for Battlefield 3 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.

The update includes fixed occasional client crash, fixed killcam showing glitched area under map, fixed spawning on dead squad mates, and framerate stability fixes.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week said the demo for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 has been downloaded more than 1.2 million times.

In addition, the Ace Combat franchise has sold 10 million units to date.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii ranked as the No. 4 game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 10,301 units between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2 to rank No. 4 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 14,034 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary at No. 5 and Rhythm Heaven at No. 7 and Wii Sports Resort at No. 9.

Pre-order sales for Nintendo Co.’s The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Gold Remote Bundle for the Wii struck the top 25 pre-order sales this week at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division due to strong demand.

Pre-order sales for Nintendo Co.’s Kirby’s Return to Dream Land for Wii increased this week at Amazon.com Inc. due to building demand.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 58,504 units between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The 3DS did not rank any titles in the top 10 for the week.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 2,382 units to rank No. 5, the Nintendo DSi sold 1,679 to rank No. 6, and the DS Lite sold 52 units to rank No. 9 in the same period.

Nintendo Co. this week said it will sell a new bundle that includes the Nintendo 3DS and Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter Tri-G in Japan in Dec.

The bundle will include an exclusive Monster Hunter Tri-G Nintendo 3DS hardware, a copy of Monster Hunter Tri-G and the slide-pad accessory at 20,800 yen ($271 US).

In addition, the Nintendo 3DS Ice White SKU will be sold at 15,000 yen Oct. 20.

Pre-order sales for Nintendo Co. Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS ranked in the top 40 at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division amid solid advanced demand for the title.

Apple Inc. this week said it will release the new iPhone 4S to ATT Inc., Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. Oct. 14 at $199.

The iPhone 4S will include the A5 Dual-Core CPU, 8MP camera, 1080 HD video recording functionality, iOS 5, and a new voice command protocol called Suri.

Suri can call, text, email, remind, and offer weather, stock, traffic, direction, and definition information via voice commands.

Battery is said to offer 8 hours of 3G talk time and 10 hours of video.

Additionally, the device will merge CDMA and GSM antennas into one world phone device.

The 16GB SKU will sell at $199, 32GB at $299 and 64GB at $399.

Apple Inc. this week sold out of pre-order inventory of the iPhone 4S due to strong demand.

The Apple Store, which began pre-order sales Oct. 7, now disclaims a shipment time of one to two weeks. It previously held an estimated Oct. 14 launch day delivery.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc.’s new entry-level Kindle held as a top-seller post launch of the new e-reader SKU right behind pre-order sales for the Kindle Fire.

This week, the Kindle ranked as the No. 2 best-selling product in Amazon’s Electronics division.

Amazon.com Inc. has sold 250,000 units of the Kindle Fire tablet in five days according to a new report.

Cult of Android this week reported the Kindle Fire has pre-sold 250,000 units in the first five days of availability, or an average of 50,000 units per day.

India this week said it will sell new tablets with Google Inc.’s Android OS for less than current devices in order to increase computer literacy.

The government this week said it will sell tablets to schools for as low as 1,100 rupees ($22 US).

It will purchase 100,000 tablets at 2,250 rupees ($46 US) each from U.K.-based DataWind Ltd and sell it to schools at subsidized prices.

The 7-inch tablet will include a 366Mhz CPU, 256MB RAM, 2GB storage, two USB ports, Wi-Fi and cellular functionality.

The device is said to be capable of playing videos, games, and Internet browsing.

Pre-order sales for the Steve Jobs autobiography ranked spiked to No. 1 at Amazon.com following the death of the Apple Inc. co-founder and former CEO.

This week, the Steve Jobs autobiography held a 38,500 percent sales increase to rank as the No. 1 product in Amazon’s Books division.

Written by Walter Isaacon, Steve Jobs is an exclusive autobiography based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years.

T-Mobile Inc. this week said it will release the T-Mobile myTouch and T-Mobile myTouch Q by LG Corp. to U.S. retail this holiday.

The myTouch will include a 3.8-inch touch screen, 1Ghz Qualcomm CPU, 5MP camera, 720p video recording functionality, front-facing camera, and Google Inc.’s Android 2.3 OS. It will be sold in black or white.

The myTouch Q will include a 3.5-inch touch-screen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 1Ghz Qualcomm CPU, 5MP camera, 720p video recording functionality, front-facing camera, and Google Inc.’s Android 2.3 OS. It will be sold in grey or violet.

Both are compatible with the T-Mobile HSPA+ 4G network.
