Week Recap: PS3 Battlefield 3; Xbox 360 cut; Zelda Wii; Kindle Fire

Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked No. 2 in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 39,452 units between Sept. 19 to Sept. 25 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 36,061 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked four titles in the top 10, including From Software Inc.’s Dark Souls at No. 1, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection at No. 2, To Heart 2 DX Plus at No. 8, and Bandai Namco Inc.’s Tales of Xilla at No. 9.

Sales for the Playstation Move controller for the Playstation 3 increased amid a 50 percent discount for the product.

This week, the Playstation Move holds a discount price of $24.99, 50 percent off the $49.99 MSRP.

In addition, the Move Navigation Controller holds a sale price of $14.99, 50 percent off the $29.99 MSRP.

Pre-order sales for the Playstation 3 320GB Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Bundle climbed this week amid strong advanced demand.

The Playstation 3 320GB Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Bundle will include the PS3 320GB SKU, Dualshock 3 Controller, a copy of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Fortune, and a 30-day Playstation Plus Membership Trial at $299.99.

Launch sales for Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection to the Playstation 3 ranked in the top 10 at Amazon.com Inc. amid release of the title.

Additionally, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception for the Playstation 3 held in the top three ‘Most Wished For’ game titles at Amazon.com Inc. due to strong demand.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week released the new Tokyo Visit Trailer for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.

The Trailer details the Tokyo DLC Multiplayer Map including renders of individual buildings and landmarks.

Bethesda Softworks’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim held in the top 25 pre-order sales at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division this week due to strong pre-order demand.

Pre-order sales for Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One climbed this week at Amazon.com amid building demand for the title.

Amazon this week is offering a T-Rex Morph Weapon Mod to customers who pre-order Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One.

Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil 4 HD is a sharp remake of the entry that offers intense scares in a full high-definition.

In addition, Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil: Code Veronica X is a solid rebirth that combines sharper graphics to creepy gameplay.

The PSP sold 28,548 units for the week to rank at No. 3 in Japan.

The PSP go sold 15 units to rank No. 10 for the week.

The PSP ranked two titles in the top 10, Konami Corp.’s Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Tag Force 6 at No. 3 and Busou Shinki: Battle Masters Mk. 2 at No. 7.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware climbed this week in the latest Japan retail figures amid the release of Gears of War 3 in the region.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 3,897 units between Sept. 19 and Sept. 25 to rank No. 8 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,295 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Gears of War 3 at No. 4 with 56,113 units sold.

Microsoft Corp. this week said Epic Games Inc.’s Gears of War 3 for the Xbox 360 sold three million units in the first week of availability.

In addition, the shooter franchise has surpassed $1 billion in lifetime sales.

Microsoft Corp. this week said it will begin to produce Xbox 360 consoles in Brazil.

The company said the local production will cut hardware production cost by 40 percent.

The production is in partnership with Flextronics International Ltd., which currently produces the Xbox 360 hardware in China.

Microsoft expects to manufacture 17,000 units per week in the new facility.

Microsoft Corp.’s Forza Motorsport 4 Limited Edition SKU for the Xbox 360 ranked in the top 10 this week at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division this week due to strong pre-order demand.

Pre-order sales for Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Dark Souls forged ahead at Amazon.com Inc. this week due to strong demand for the product.

Pre-order demand for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary held the top five sales Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division due to strong demand.

Customers who pre-order the title will receive a $10 Bonus, the Master Chief Avatar Armor to outfit an Xbox Live Avatar with the MJOLNIR Armor, and the Grunt Funeral Skull to activate a Grunt’s methane tank to explode like a Plasma Grenade.

Pre-order sales for Bethesda Softworks’ Rage ranked in the top 20 sales this week at Amazon.com Inc. amid a new $10 Bonus with advanced purchase of the SKU.

Pre-order sales for Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition SKU ranked in the top 10 sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division this week amid strong pre-sale demand.

EA Inc. this week began the Multiplayer Beta for Battlefield 3.

The Multiplayer Beta includes the Operation Metro Map and the Rush Game Mode.

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment Inc. this week said it will release the Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition SKU ranked in the top 20 pre-order sales at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division this week due to strong demand.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii ranked as the No. 4 game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 14,034 units between Sept. 19 and Sept.25 to rank No. 4 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 15,406 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10, including Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary at No. 5 and Tecmo Koei Holdings Co. Ltd.’s Champion Jockey at No. 10.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 70,159 units between Sept. 19 and Sept. 25 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The 3DS ranked one title in the top 10 for the week, Marvelous Entertainment Inc.’s Senran Kagura at No. 6.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 2,991 units to rank No. 5, the Nintendo DSi sold 2,351 to rank No. 6, and the DS Lite sold 86 units to rank No. 9 in the same period.

Pre-order sales for Nintendo Co.’s The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Gold Remote Bundle for the Wii ranked in the top 15 sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division amid strong demand.

The The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Gold Remote Bundle will include The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Music CD soundtrack, and a Gold Wii Remote with Triforce symbol at $69.99.

Nintendo Co.’s Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS ranked in the top 35 sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division this week due to building pre-order demand.

EA Inc.’s Star Wars: The Old Republic held as the top pre-order item at GameStop Corp.’s online division this week due to high pre-order demand.

Amazon.com Inc. this week said it will release the Kindle Fire Tablet Nov. 15 at $199.99.

The Kindle Fire includes a full-color 7-inch multi-touch IPS display, Dual-Core CPU, 8GB Internal Memory, Wi-Fi functionality, and up to eight hours of battery life.

Applications include the Amazon Silk Browser, E-Mail, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Appstore, and Amazon Cloud Drive with unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content.

Finally, each Kindle Fire will include a free month of Amazon Prime membership.

Amazon this week announced new Kindle models including the Kindle at $79.00, the Kindle Touch with touch display and built-in Wi-Fi at $99.00, and the Kindle Touch 3G which adds free 3G wireless functionality at $149.00.

DC Entertainment this week said it will offer 100 digital books exclusively to to Amazon.com Inc.’s newly announced Kindle Fire.

The comic book publisher will include 100 digital graphic novels including Watchmen, Batman: Arkham City, and Superman: Earth One.

T-Mobile Inc. this week said it will release Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Corp.’s Amaze 4G to U.S. retail Oct. 10 online and Oct. 12 at retail stores.

The Samsung Galaxy S II includes a 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core CPU, 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 4G functionality, Samsung TouchWiz user interface, accelerometer, gyroscope, Media Hub, 8MP camera with 1080p HD video functionality, 2MP front-facing camera, NFC functionality, 16GB memory, HSPA+ 42Mbps functionality, and Google Inc.’s Android OS 2.3.5.

It will sell at $229.99 after $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract.

The HTC Amaze 4G includes a 4.3-inch qHD display, 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core CPU, 8MP camera with 1080 video recording with dedicated buttons for each, SmartShot, ClearShot HDR, and SweetShot functionality, NFC functionality, HSPA+ 42Mbps functionality, and Android OS 2.3.4.

It will sell at $259.99 after $50 mail-in-rebate and two-year contract.

T-Mobile Inc. this week said it will release HTC Corp.’s HTC Radar 4G with Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Phone 7 Mango OS this holiday.

The device will include a 1Ghz CPU, 3.8-inch screen, 5MP camera with 720p video recording, HSPA+ 14.4Mbps functionality, 8GB storage, and 512MB RAM.

Price and release date are to be determined.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week began offering from Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. to Amazon Prime members in a new streaming partnership.

This week, Amazon began offering a selection of TV and movie content from Fox to Amazon Prime members, including 24, Arrested Development, The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Wonder Years.

Amazon currently has content distribution deals with CBS Corp., NBCUniversal Media LLC, Sony Corp. and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

Select U.S. retailers this week discounted Research in Motion Ltd.’s Blackberry Playbook by as much as $200 post HP Co.’s clearance of the TouchPad.

This week, Staples Inc. this week price cut the Blackberry Playbook to $299.99 after a $100 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate.

Meanwhile, Office Depot this week discounted all Playbook SKUs by $100.

Additionally, Best Buy Co. Inc. this week discounted HTC Corp.’s HTC Flyer tablet by $200 post Amazon.com Inc.’s announcement of the Kindle Fire tablet.

Beginning Oct. 1, the HTC Flyer will sell at $299.99, $200 off the former $499.99 MSRP.

A mobile advertising firm this week said users of Research in Motion Ltd.’s Blackberry and Google Inc.’s Android OS will purchase Apple Inc.’s new iPhone 5.

In a survey by inMobi, 52 percent of Blackberry and 27 percent of Android users plan to switch to the new iPhone.

Additionally, 51 percent of current iPhone users plan to upgrade to the latest model.
